Northfield Automation Systems (NAS) has had an active first half of the year with Q2 exceeding Q1 including installations and orders around the globe.
We recently delivered a custom wide web format web handling system that included in-line slitting, custom web treatment and multi-web capability at the Rewind machine. The project was completed for a global company headquartered in the Midwest. Our solution resulted in enhanced closed-loop tension control on all webs, precision speed settings and other custom features for higher tolerance product requirements that enable broader product capability.
NAS has recently partnered with an OEM manufacturer of a Direct Imaging platform to develop a turnkey roll-to-roll solution. This NAS web handling solution includes our Precision Fastening Module (PFM) that allows for roll changes to take place without an operator at the process line. With custom software, this line will inform the operator and manufacturing floor of status prior to the process having to pause for operator interaction. This allows for higher uptime and throughput that far exceeds what was achieved previously. This solution will be installed in southeast Asia and is the first such system for this large manufacturing facility, as it scales up.
Another project being finalized is a custom Turnkey Roll-to-Roll Laminator and Slitter, that is currently in final testing. This solution is achieving very high-temperature lamination with custom heated nip rollers. These materials are being treated prior to lamination to optimize the adhesion of the multiple webs. In addition, the multi-layer web will then be slit into multiple reels of various widths for a variety of different product requirements. This machine will allow for a library of recipe-driven product platforms to be stored and gives the operator a quick touchscreen selection that sets all of the required parameters for that specific product. This system will be storing all process variables during operation for traceability and feedback for optimizing the product and providing data for the end customer. This system will be delivered to a new customer outside of the United States.
NAS received a repeat order from a customer in China manufacturing state-of-the-art display products. These installations will be the second and third of its kind at this location. These roll-to-roll platforms perform single-micron-level inspection for defect detection. These types of defects would not necessarily render the product non-functional but would reduce its lifespan or risk its performance. The solution offers inline barcoding and feature marking that allows for downstream data gathering to optimize the additive processing that follows this process step. This is one example of how Northfield Automation Systems provides added value to our customers, beyond the equipment build itself by optimizing the overall manufacturing process.
We continue to provide cutting-edge solutions for the manufacturing environment, by keeping up with technology to meet tighter tolerance and denser package product requirements.
